Why does my font size look different in Outlook? (Pixel and Point Values)

Scenario

You’re creating your email signature in Lemontaps and set a font size of 14. However, when you send an email, the font appears smaller than expected – especially in Outlook.

Reason

Lemontaps uses pixels (px) exclusively to define font sizes.
Most email programs – especially Microsoft Outlook – use points (pt) instead.

Since px and pt are not the same, the rendered size can differ between Lemontaps and your email client.

Important: In Lemontaps, there is no option to switch between “px” and “pt”. The unit is always px.

Example

If you normally use 14pt in Outlook, you should enter 19px in Lemontaps to achieve the same visual result.
If you mistakenly enter 14px, the text will look smaller – around 10.5pt in Outlook.

Solution

1. Know the conversion:

Use the table below to convert pixels (px) to points (pt) for better consistency:

Pixel (px) Point (pt) Typical Use
8px 6pt
9px 7pt
10px 7.5pt very small
11px 8pt
12px 9pt
13px 10pt small
14px 10.5pt
15px 11pt
16px 12pt medium
17px 13pt
18px 13.5pt large
19px 14pt equivalent to 14pt
20px 14.5pt
21px 15pt
22px 16pt
23px 17pt
24px 18pt very large
26px 20pt
29px 22pt
32px 24pt very large

2. Quick conversion rule:

1pt ≈ 1.33px
To convert pt to px:
pt × 1.33 = px (rounded to nearest whole number)

Example:
If your email client uses 12pt:
12 × 1.33 ≈ 16px
→ Use 16px in Lemontaps for a consistent appearance.

Recommended font sizes in Lemontaps

Use case Recommended pt Equivalent in px
Body text / Name 11–12pt 15–16px
Contact details 9–10pt 12–13px
Disclaimers / Footers 7–8pt 9–11px

Summary

If your signature looks too small in Outlook, it's usually due to mixing up pt and px.
With the correct conversion, you’ll ensure that your Lemontaps fonts match your email program’s output.
